What this job involves

The Route Delivery Driver delivers perishable food products along scheduled routes while providing accurate product and pricing information, taking orders, and supporting customer relationships. The role combines safe driving, product handling, delivery documentation, and customer service.

Daily responsibilities

  • Load trucks in a safe, logical order, secure loads, and verify that the correct products are loaded and delivered.
  • Deliver orders according to established route schedules and communicate necessary loading or routing changes to the manager.
  • Unload products and place them where customers request, handling merchandise safely and efficiently.
  • Provide product and pricing information, take customer orders, and promptly address or communicate customer concerns and requests.
  • Perform backhauls and airport pickups as needed.
  • Complete delivery paperwork and credit or debit documentation accurately and in full.
  • Return shipping documents, returned products, and credit documentation to the designated area after deliveries.
  • Perform required pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, take appropriate action, and report safety concerns or necessary repairs.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report maintenance problems to the manager.
  • Follow DOT regulations, safe driving guidelines, and applicable company, state, and federal requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the transportation team and perform additional assigned duties.

Required qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of related experience delivering and selling perishable food products.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report for the past 3 years.
  • Ability to pass a road test.

Preferred qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in time-sensitive situations.
  • Familiarity with local streets, highways, and buildings.

Physical requirements

  • Stand for sustained periods, walk, reach, and grasp objects.
  • Regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Communicate detailed spoken instructions and hear information at normal speaking levels, with or without correction.
  • Use close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment

Work includes office and warehouse environments with moderate noise, standard office equipment, and heavy machinery. Plant conditions may involve exposure to wet, cold, or humid environments.
