Medical assistant position
You’ll provide hands-on patient support in a health center while assisting providers and care teams with exams, preventive care, treatment coordination, documentation, and daily clinical operations. The role combines direct patient interaction with administrative and clinical responsibilities.
Patient care and clinical support
- Prepare examination rooms and get patients ready for appointments.
- Record medical histories and measure vital signs.
- Perform venipuncture and administer immunizations within the medical assistant scope of practice.
- Assist physicians, family nurse practitioners, physician assistants, health educators, and integrated care coordinators.
- Support preventive care and encourage patients to take an active role in maintaining their health.
- Refer patients to appropriate members of the primary healthcare team when needed.
- Help monitor patient-centered health home goals.
Records and care coordination
- Maintain accurate patient and program records.
- Keep immunization records current for county registry reporting.
- Prepare documentation required by funding and inspection agencies.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.
- Follow infection control procedures and established clinical safety practices.
- Support department and program standards related to high-reliability healthcare operations.
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical Assistant training or certification preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current CPR or CPR/AED certification.
- Strong verbal, written, and listening skills.
- Excellent customer service, problem-solving, and active listening abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or emotionally difficult situations.
- Knowledge of patient care, addiction treatment, and mental health disorders.
- Knowledge of community resources, including Medicare, Medi-Cal, Supplemental Security Income, and county General Assistance programs.
- Ability to work effectively with patients from a wide range of backgrounds and circumstances.
- Strong recordkeeping and organizational skills.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and database software.
- Ability to maintain professional relationships and protect confidential information.
Schedule and physical requirements
- Travel may be required to support operational needs.
- May be required to work one weekend per month.
- Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, and use hands throughout the workday.
- Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to work in a clinical environment with potential exposure to bodily fluids and hazardous chemicals.
