Role overview
The Senior Data Analyst turns game telemetry into reliable insights that help technical and non-technical teams understand player behavior, improve experiences, and make informed decisions. Working autonomously across studio disciplines, the role combines optimized SQL, exploratory analysis, data modeling, and visualization with hands-on familiarity with the games. It includes translating stakeholder needs into useful data resources, identifying security threats and inefficiencies, and explaining findings in actionable terms.
Analysis and Collaboration
- Explore large game-telemetry datasets to identify player relationships, feature-use patterns, security threats, inefficiencies, and opportunities to improve player and developer experiences.
- Bridge technical and non-technical teams, offer technical guidance, and turn stakeholder needs and context into requirements, practical data solutions, and actionable business insights.
- Build a detailed understanding of the games through hands-on play and consider the player's perspective when approaching problems.
- Navigate ambiguous problems, iterate on proposed solutions, and advocate approaches supported by analysis.
- Work as a curious, detail-oriented self-starter who is comfortable taking risks, applying sound judgment, and sharing knowledge.
Required Expertise
- Extensive experience writing optimized SQL to build and analyze datasets and resources such as tables, views, and stored procedures.
- Experience combining disparate datasets from structured and unstructured sources, including SQL, NoSQL, caches, and blob storage.
- Proficiency in exploratory data analysis and a visualization tool such as Tableau or Looker.
- A deep understanding of data modeling, data-quality practices, and cost-efficient storage architecture.
- Experience with Git and modern version-control workflows.
- A strong interest in video games and the ability to work independently while contributing to a team.
Preferred Background
- Familiarity with Python tools such as Pandas, Airflow, Flask, and Plotly.
- Experience with the broader GCP ecosystem, including Kubernetes, GCS, PubSub, and Cloud Functions.
- Experience with Apache Spark, dbt, or other state-management systems.
- Video-game industry experience or experience in a small company with a startup atmosphere.
- An interest in technical writing and sharing work. A willingness to learn and contribute as a team player is particularly valued.
