About the Role
The Junior QA Engineer supports software quality through a combination of manual testing and developing test automation skills. The position focuses on creating and executing test cases, test plans, and test scenarios while learning to develop, maintain, and improve automated test scripts under the guidance of senior automation team members. The work involves software testing fundamentals, automation frameworks, scripting, CI/CD, SDLC, and Agile delivery practices.
This role is designed for someone early in an automation career who already has technical exposure to software testing, automation, scripting, development, or a related area. The position requires flexibility between manual validation and automated testing based on delivery timelines, feature complexity, and team priorities.
Core Responsibilities
- Learn to develop, maintain, and enhance automated test scripts with guidance from senior automation team members.
- Participate in creating and executing test cases, test plans, and test scenarios based on business requirements.
- Shift between manual validation and test automation based on delivery timelines, feature complexity, and team needs.
- Continue building technical testing knowledge through exposure to automation frameworks, scripting, CI/CD, and quality engineering best practices.
- Communicate effectively in a remote environment and maintain an active on-camera presence during meetings when expected.
Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications
- Prior technical experience in software testing, automation, scripting, development, or a related technical area, or a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or another programming- or technology-related field from an accredited higher education institution.
- Basic understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and/or Agile delivery practices.
- Familiarity with test automation concepts and an interest in developing skills with automation tools and frameworks.
- Exposure to one or more programming or scripting languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, Python, or C#.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Health IT is a plus.
Work & Pay Details
- Location: United States
- Workplace: Remote
- Compensation: $75,000 - $115,000 per year.
- Individual compensation is based on factors including experience, skills, strengths, growth potential, scope of responsibilities, and team impact.
- The position involves interaction with people and technology while standing or sitting and requires the ability to communicate by phone, face-to-face, or computer, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Depending on the assignment, the position may require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations and the ability to stand, walk, and lift, carry, or move light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds.
- The position requires hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, as well as visual acuity sufficient to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read technical information.
