Merchandising role overview
You’ll service assigned retail locations by keeping products stocked, properly displayed, rotated, and presented according to merchandising standards. The role also includes maintaining account relationships, identifying sales opportunities, monitoring competitor activity, and completing required records while traveling between stores.
Store and product execution
- Maintain appropriate product inventory levels at assigned large and small retail locations.
- Stock, organize, rotate, and display merchandise according to established procedures.
- Follow required merchandising routines and account-specific standards.
- Identify out-of-stock items and opportunities to improve product placement or distribution.
- Report damaged, dented, expired, or otherwise unsuitable products for pickup or replacement.
- Help maintain and expand the assigned product portfolio within retail accounts.
Customer and sales support
- Build professional relationships with store managers and other retail contacts.
- Support sales efforts by identifying opportunities to increase product presence within accounts.
- Communicate relevant store and inventory information to members of the sales team.
- Monitor competitor activity, including new product launches and price changes.
- Share competitive observations and merchandising opportunities with management.
Records and route responsibilities
- Maintain driver logs, mileage records, fuel purchase records, training documentation, and other required records.
- Complete documentation in accordance with internal policies and applicable state and federal requirements.
- Manage multiple store priorities while maintaining an organized daily workload.
- Use smartphone technology to support merchandising, communication, and reporting tasks.
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Reliable vehicle available for work purposes with required insurance coverage.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate with customers and participate in group presentations or role-play exercises.
- Strong math, observation, and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain punctuality.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred background
- Previous merchandising experience.
- Additional language skills.
Physical requirements
- Ability to regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to walk, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach as required.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements during merchandising tasks.
- Ability to work around moving mechanical equipment and in outdoor weather conditions when required.
